COLOURS

The Akhal Teke breed has a larger number of black horses compared to most other breeds. Other colours include bay, chestnut, dun, palomino, grey, cremello and perlino.

They also have an iridescent sheen to their hair, which is spectacular when seen on a Golden Dun as they look like a newly minted gold coin.

Palomino is known in some European countries as "Isabella," rumour has it, after Queen Isabella of Spain, who refused to change her underwear for six year while King Ferdinand was away fighting. Her underclothes thus became the colour of a Palomino horse!
